Cancer Support Clinic

At Avicenna we are committed to using Chinese medicine together with conventional healthcare to meet the needs of people living with cancer.  High quality acupuncture and herbal medicine are routinely used for cancer care throughout Chinese hospitals and at Avicenna we're now able to offer the same service to patients in the UK.

Cancer and Chinese Medicine

In China, hospital departments are dedicated to offering integrated medicine where treatment of cancer with modern methods is complemented and enhanced by Chinese medical treatments.  Chinese research has consistently shown that herbs given during radio and chemotherapy help to reduce side effects, speed up recovery times and can lead to improved rates of success.  Herbal medicine is also routinely given to help maintain good health after treatment and as a supportive intervention for people who are living with cancer.

At Avicenna, experienced and highly skilled practitioners offer Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture that is guided by the latest developments from China, and which has been proven to have significant benefits for those living with cancer.  Our in-house clinic dispensary provides a comprehensive range of high quality herbs (we stock over 450 herbs, which are the same as those used in Chinese hospitals.  Our products are sourced from reputable suppliers in China and all patients undergoing herbal treatment are carefully and regularly monitored to ensure that they are responding positively to the herbs.  We also offer a unique decoction service where personalised herbal prescriptions can be pre-cooked (decocted) and dispensed in easy-to-use sachets to allow optimum treatment with minimal inconvenience.

Acupuncture also plays an important role in cancer care.  There is substantial research supporting the use of acupuncture for chemotherapy-induced nausea and also for hot flushes in women with breast cancer on hormonal treatment.
