Community Pain Clinic
About our Community Pain Clinic
Our goal is to provide effective acupuncture treatment in as few sessions as possible. This is the ideal solution for those who want an immediate treatment, an affordable treatment, or effective pain reduction.
Modelled after a traditional Chinese medical facility in a spacious room with multiple treatment beds, patients are given private consultations before being treated in the open room. Privacy curtains accompany each bed space and modesty is protected at all times. Multiple treatments per week increase the effectiveness of treatment allowing patients quicker results.
Although we specialise in painful conditions, we can treat many other conditions in the Pain Clinic such as labour inductions, morning sickness, breech birth presentation, and addiction to name a few.

About Community Pain Clinic Treatment
In China, a course of acupuncture treatment may be given daily or every other day in a large room with several treatment beds. It has only been on its migration to the West that the emergence of weekly one-to-one acupuncture treatments has evolved. At Avicenna we recognise that many painful conditions which respond extremely well to acupuncture respond even more effectively with frequent treatments. The large room, community space model allows patients to be seen more than once a week if required and at a reduced cost to make subsequent treatments more affordable.
Additionally, some painful conditions need immediate treatment. A community treatment room allows for more available treatment times so patients in pain do not have to wait unnecessarily for relief.
It is easy to see why this model is growing in popularity in the West. Currently, there are 28 multi-bed clinics in the U.K. and over 100 in America.
"When qi flows freely, there is no pain, when it is obstructed, there is pain."
Treatment at the Community Pain Clinic — What to Expect
Initial Consultation:
Patient confidentiality and privacy are paramount at Avicenna. For this reason, all Pain Clinic initial consultations are conducted in a separate, private room.
The initial consultation takes approximately 30 minutes. Your condition will be discussed at length with a practitioner. Background information is also taken to confirm the diagnosis. Tongue and pulse diagnosis are also taken.
Treatment:
After the initial consultation and any subsequent acupuncture treatment is conducted in a large, calm room with more than one treatment bed. Each treatment bed has its own curtain for privacy.
As in all acupuncture treatments, patients are encouraged to wear loose fitting clothes. If removal of an item of clothing is required, additional screens and blankets may be utilised.
Once needles are inserted and the patient is comfortable, the patient is allowed to relax for 20 minutes or more. During this time the practitioner may work discreetly with another patient.
