Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork based, like acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, on the classic theories of Chinese Medicine. It addresses a wide range of specific ailments, as well as promoting relaxation, enhancing vitality and reducing stress. Aches and pains, digestive, respiratory and menstrual problems are examples of conditions that shiatsu has helped treat. The session takes place through clothes on a futon or couch and includes both invigorating techniques as well as gentler and more nourishing work in proportions that vary according to the client’s particular constitution and the nature of their complaints.

Some conditions that respond particularly well to this therapy are:

  • chronic back and neck pain
  • postural disorders
  • migraines and headaches
  • musculo-skeletal disorders
  • emotional issues
  • digestive disorders
  • menstrual problems
  • insomnia
  • stress related disorders

Of course, shiatsu can equally be enjoyed simply for relaxation. Treatments usually last for one hour, and can be booked as single or as a course of sessions. Please wear loose, warm clothing that covers the whole body.
