Ying Fan has worked as a Dermatologist at Avicenna since September 2017. She was recruited by Mazin Al-Khafaji to work under his direct supervision within the Associate Clinician Scheme. Previous to that she worked for several years at the Dermatology Department of the well known Guang An Men Hospital in Beijing, China.
She originally graduated as Doctor of Chinese Medicine from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and subsequently gained an additional Master of Chinese Medicine in both Western and Chinese Medicine Dermatology, and has been the recipient of several scholarships and awards.
Before specialising in Dermatology she spent 7 years undergoing rotations in several specialist departments at Guanganmen Hospital in Beijing, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, amongst them emergency outpatients, Acupuncture, Tuina Massage, and Gynaecology, as well as in-patients of Cardiovascular & Respiratory disease, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Oncology, and Gastroenterology.
She is highly skilled at composing individual herbal prescriptions and brings a lot of practical experience and a wide skill set to Avicenna. This includes a range of dermatological treatment options less well known outside China, such as Facial Gua Sha for rejuvenation, and ‘Fire Needling’, a method of successfully treating recalcitrant skin or neurological conditions like herpes zoster, post-herpetic neuralgia, lichen simplex, persistent pruritus etc.
