Chinese Herbs avert Leg Surgery

11 June 2008

Chinese doctors used healing herbs to save the limbs of Diabetics.

A major complication of diabetes is poor circulation, which can lead to ulcers and gangrene, and patients often have their feet or lower legs amputated. But Chinese specialists are using traditional medicine and herbs to treat the condition, with amazing results. They took 30 patients who were due to have limbs amputated, and saved the limbs of 25 of them.

Dr Ping-chung Leung of Hong Kong's Prince of Wales Hospital, who is leading research into the treatment, said amputations had been confined to toes and feet instead of surgery requiring artificial limbs. He says: “We are very pleased with our success. We were able to treat patients who had been written off by conventional medicine”.
